2010 PHONE BANK
FAST FACTS and FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
§ What? Phone Bank for Ashland Schools Foundation’s 21st Annual Fund Drive
§ When is it – When are the dedicated school nights (the nights each school works to get their volunteers at the phone drive)?
The call nights have been scheduled as follows:
- April 06 (Tues) – AHS/John Muir Night
- April 08 (Thur) – AMS/Willow Wind Night
- April 13 (Tues) – Combined Elem. Night
- April 15 (Thur) – Combined Elem. Night
§ Where is it? The Windsor Inn (across I-5 on the right)
§ What is the time schedule?
-
6:00 – 6:15 pm… Check-in, eat dinner donated by local restaurants, chat with other volunteers.
-
6:15 – 7:00 pm… Training while you eat.
-
7:00 – 9:00 pm… Call parents and previous donors.
§ Who will I be calling? If you come on your dedicated school night we will try to have you call other parents from your school who may or may not already be donors to ASF. We are once again working on having matching grants available to encourage new donors and our parent participation drive should also be an incentive to give. If you are calling on another night you will be calling either parents from other schools or community members who are already ASF donors.
§ If I have my own cell phone, can I use it? Yes, by all means - in fact you may have to! We encourage volunteers to use their own cell phones – they are used to the way they work and it frees up more of our donated phones for other volunteers who may not have their own phone. This year Verizon and US Cellular are supplying us with cell phones for each phone night so we hope to have plenty for our volunteers.
§ I can’t come on my dedicated school night, but am still interested in helping. That’s great. Sign up for any night that fits your schedule.
§ Is there babysitting available? No. We have supplied babysitting options over the past years, but have had such little usage, that we will not be offering babysitting this year.
§ I’ve never done this before and am uncomfortable asking people for money! Don’t worry – everyone feels that way at first. You’ll get help with what to say and how to say it. You’ll be surprised at how supportive our community is for the education of our children. Encourage a friend to sign up to volunteer with you – there’s strength in numbers – and you can practice on each other before you begin. The first phone call can be scary, but that first donation makes you feel incredibly good. By the time you leave you’ll be surprised at how much fun you’ve had and will feel great about making a real difference in the Ashland schools.
